BR2-14 Pocahontas

In 1607 the English ship arrived in Virginia. The English wanted to start new life in new land. But there were already many people called Indian. They lived many years in Virginia.

The English men were afraid of Indians at first. But they decided to be friend with Indians. The English men gave many interesting things such as little knives, pictures and beads. Indians gave food for The English. But soon The English needed more food and Indians wanted guns. The English didn't want to give guns because possibly Indians will attack with these.

One day one of leaders in English John Smith was caught by Indians. The king of Indians, Powhatan wanted to kill Smith. But Powhatan's daughter, Pocahontas stopped him. Powhatan decided to give Smith to Pocahontas.

John Smith stayed with Pocahontas some days. He taught about English to Pocahontas. Soon they became friends. Powhatan let John Smith go. But Powghatan asked John Smith about guns. They went to Jamestown(English land in Virginia). The English gave gun powder for Indians. Also Smith gave compass for Pocahontas.

But Indians didn't satisfy. They really wanted guns. Some Indians came to Jamestown and tried to steal guns. But they fail. Smith was angry about that and locked the men into small room. Pocahontas came to Jamestown every week. She learnt more about English from Smith. And she loved Smith very much. She said she wanted to marry with Smith. But Smith didn't accept it because she is very young for him.

The circumstance between The English and Indians is worse and worse. The English suffered from shortage of food. They fought and fought. John Smith got ill because of accident. He had to go back home. Pocahontas didn't know that for a month. And she was sad and tried to forget that.

After four years Pocahontas was caught by The English as a hostage. But Pocahontas liked The English. Soon she got some friends. Also she married with English man, John Rolfe. She was happy. Pocahontas, Rolfe and their men went to England. Pocahontas excited everything in England. She was invited by the King of England. And unexpected things happened. John Smith was alive. She met Smith again. But it was a little sad thing. Now she has husband and child. She loved Smith but she can't be Smith's wife. After that Pocahontas suffered ill and died in 1617. John Rolfe came back to Virginia and got married with English woman. John Smith didn't go out from England and got married with anyone. Probably he couldn't forget Pocahontas's sad face.(429 words/ 13931 words)

BR2-13 The Canterville Ghost

The Otis family came to Canterville from America. They bought a house called Canterville Chase. The house was scared by former owner. Because there was a ghost in the house. The ghost scares family and some people died because of it. But The Otis family was not afraid of the ghost.

Every morning there was a blood stain on the floor. Mrs Otis cleans it everyday, but it appear everyday. One night Mr Otis didn't sleep because of strange noise. It was chain sound and footstep of someone. And it was coming near to his bed room. Mr Otis opened his room door and saw an old man with eyes red fire and has grey long hair. There were heavy metal chains round his arms and legs. Mr Otis gave the ghost Tammany's Sun Oil. Because it prevents making chain noise. Then Mr Otis backed to his room. But the ghost got angry. Because for three hundred years he has been thought he was the best ghost and everybody was afraid of him.

The ghost made next plan to scare The Otis family. He used three hundred year old armour. He thought even modern Americans will frighten it. But he fail again. One night after The Otis family went to bed, the ghost was walking in the house. Suddenly he saw the most horrible ghost. It had a large head with no hair and round fat face with deathly smile. At first he was afraid of it and hid. But he thought he could be friend. But when he came, there was already no ghost. And one paper was there. It said "The Otis Ghost The only true and real ghost All is false" When the ghost saw it, he was angry again. Next five days, the ghost stayed his secret room. He didn't feel well. The more bad things happened to him. Twins of Mr Otis were not afraid of the ghost and they started to trick ghost sometime. The ghost was shocked and he was gone.

Mr Otis's daughter, Virginia liked go out horse riding with young Duke. When they were riding, Virginia's skirt got a big hole because of tree. Virginia went home to change her skirt and she didn't want to be looked, so she came in a room which is not often used. Surprisingly she found the ghost sitting near the window. He looked like sad. Virginia wanted to get away but she felt sorry for him. So she spoke to him. She got to know about the ghost story and he need to sleep. The ghost had not been slept for three hundred years because of ghost. If someone pray for him and cried for him, the ghost could sleep forever. Virginia decided to do that.

In the evening Virginia disappeared with ghost. The rest of Otis family worried about that. But she came back at midnight with a box. In the box, there were beautiful jewels. She explained what happened to her. The Otis family decided to bring Sir Simon(The ghost) to "Garden of Death".

In spring 1890, Virginia married with young Duke. She wore beautiful jewel from the ghost. And everyone said it was beautiful.(533 words/ 13502 words)

BR2-12 Dracula

This is the famous story. Probably you know what Dracula is. But I don't know the origin of Dracula. Now I finished reading and got to know Dracula well.

This story is from Jonathan Harker's diary.

In 1875, Jonathan Harker went to Transylvania to meet the client. Jonathan's job is to buy and sell houses for other people. In fact He didn't want to go, because he was planing to marry with Mina. He didn't want to leave her. But it was job. Count Dracula wanted to buy a house in England. So he wanted to meet and talk with Jonathan. He called Jonathan to come Transylvania.

On the way to Castle Dracula, Jonathan dropped by a hotel. The people in the hotel asked "Where are you going?" He replied "To Castle Dracula" Suddenly the room was silent. And the hotel keeper's wife gave Jonathan to the gold cross.

Castle Dracula was dark and only one person is living there. It was Count Dracula. He had white head and cold hands like ice, weared black cloth from head to foot. Jonathan spent one night in Castle Dracula. He ate breakfast with Cout Dracula. But Count Dracula didn't eat anything and said you can go anywhere in Castle, but you can't come in some locked room.

They talked about Count Dracula's new house in England. Jonathan's job was done. But Count Dracula didn't want Jonathan to leave. Jonathan had to spend time in Castle Dracula. In the morning Jonathan was shaving, Count Dracula came near to Jonathan and said Good morning. Jonathan was standing at the mirror but he couldn't see Count Dracula in the mirror. He was afraid and cut his himself. Count Dracula was watching it hungrily.

On evening Count Dracula said Jonathan to stay another month. Jonathan went cold when he heard this. That evening Jonathan went to bed, but he couldn't sleep. So he walked around the Castle Dracula. Many rooms were locked, he found one room opened. He came in the room. It has a window. He could see beautiful scenery. Suddenly he saw something black moving rapidly. It was Count Dracula. The room was warm and his room was cold. Jonathan decided to sleep in this room. Suddenly he felt that he was not alone. There were three beautiful women and Count Dracula. Three women wanted to eat Jonathan, but Count Dracula stopped it. Jonathan was closing his eyes, but still awake.

Two nights later Count Dracula said Jonathan to write for Mina. Because to pretend Jonathan is fine now. In daytime Count Dracula didn't appear, so Jonathan searched The Castle Dracula. He found extra room below downstairs. There were many coffins. And Jonathan found one coffin that Count Dracula was lying. In the night, Jonathan heard some work men was coming to The Castle Dracula. Jonathan thought it was chance to get away from here. So he tried to get away, but the door was locked. And he decided to jump off through the window, even though it really high.

At the same time Mina missed Jonathan very much. But she couldn't meet Jonathan at that time. Fortunately her friend, Lucy invited Mina her house that Lucy and her mother are living. Mina went there. Lucy was also planning to marry with Arthur Holmwood. She talked about Arthur. When she talked about it, Mina felt sad because she couldn't meet Jonathan. In the night, Lucy and Mina was sleeping in the room. Lucy walked in her sleep. Next morning Russian ship arrived at the beach. But there were many coffins and one big black dog. There were no people. That evening Lucy walked again in her sleep. When Mina woke up at night, Lucy wasn't there. Mina found Lucy at the churchyard. But something was there in Lucy's back.

After that night Lucy got worse. After two days, Mina got a letter from Jonathan. He was in Budapest. She didn't want to Lucy alone, but she went to Jonathan. Jonathan was ill but he was getting better everyday. Mina got to know what happened in The Castle Dracula through the Jonathan's diary. Mina went to Lucy's house with Jonathan. But they saw Count Dracula in London. Jonathan was afraid.

Lucy was getting worse everyday. Arthur called Professor Van Helsing to save Lucy. But Lucy was dying. Lucy had wounds in her neck. Before she dies, she wanted a kiss from Arthur. But Van Helsing stopped it. Because now Lucy has long sharp teeth. She was becoming vampire. So Arthur decided to kill her.

Van Helsing, Arthur, Jack and Jonathan planed to kill Count Dracula. They searched coffin that brought from Russian ship. They didn't bring Mina. Because it was dangerous　work. But unfortunately Mina was in danger. Mina was bit by Count Dracula. To save Mina, Jonathan had to kill Count Dracula. He chased Count Dracula with Van Helsing, Arthur and Jack. But Count Dracula was clever. He tried to go back to Transylvania. Jonathan and three men waited in Varna. But Count Dracula went different way to go home. Jonathan and three men took first train to Galatz. And finally they found the carroage which is bringing Count Dracula's coffin. They chased and Jonathan stabbed Count Dracula's heart with his knife. After that Mina was recover and could live as a human.(889 words/ 12969 words)

BR2-11 Love or Money

On Molly's 50 years birthday, her family got together in Molly's big house. Molly's husband died last year. Now Molly lives with her daughter Jackie. Molly is really rich. Every her family want to her money.

Jackie loves Molly so much, that's why she lives with her. She is 30 years old and smoker.

Diane is a also daughter of Molly. She wants to be a singer and live herself. Her everything is very expensive. So she really wants money. Actually she had gotten money from Molly. But suddenly Molly said that she no more give money for Diane. So She wanted to kill Molly for money.

Peter Hobbs also came to Molly's house. He is not Molly's family. He was really angry with Molly. He is 17 years old. He had a job and it is a first job for him. But because of Molly he was fired. He really hates Molly.

Albert is the husband of Molly's sister. His wife, Annie is ill. Annie wants Molly to visit her hospital. But Molly didn't come there. Now Annie is dying. Albert needed money for his wife's hospital fee.

Roger is a son of Molly. He lives in Cambridge, in an expensive house.

Mr. Briggs is the new man at the farm. He wants Molly's land.

Everyone got together and ate dinner and talked. But Molly knew all the family want Molly's money. They talked about everything. But finally Molly got angry and she went to upstairs and went to bed early. After that rest of family member gathered and drank coffee. Each member went upstairs and said good-night for Molly.

Next morning, Diane came to Molly's bed to bring coffee. But Molly was dead. Roger came to Molly's bed too. Diane phoned the doctor. The doctor is family doctor. He knows everything in Molly's family. But he couldn't find the reason why Molly died. Roger called the police.

The police ask questions for each family member. The empty bottle was found in Diane's house. Molly used sleeping tablet. She died because she took many sleeping tablet. Someone putted many sleeping tablet in Molly's glass. Every family hates Molly and wanted her money. But the criminal was unexpected woman. The criminal was Jackie. She loved Molly the best. Why she killed Molly? Because she was given nothing from Molly. And she wanted to marry with Mr Briggs, but Molly rejected that. That's why she killed Molly.

It's a sad story. Always detective story's criminal is unexpected person. All the people want money. Sometime it brings tragedy. (426 words/ 12080 words)

BR2-10 The Withered Arm

I read this book called The Withered Arm. This story is complicated for me. So I don't understand the story, but I will try to write about it...


Rhoda Brook works in Farm as a milkmaid. She works very hard; even she doesn't get enough money. She lives with her son at poor house on the hill. Her son's father is Farmer Lodge. But he got another new wife who is young and pretty. Rhoda is interested in it and she let her son to look Farmer Lodge's new wife. Her son looked Farmer Lodge's new wife and came home and told his mother about the new wife.

One night, two or three week’s later, strange thing happened. Rhoda was staring the dying fire. But she also saw only the picture in her head of the new wife. Rhoda felt tired and go to bed. But the picture of Gertrude Lodge did not go away. When Rhoda went to bed, she was there. Her face was cruel smile and her hand has wedding ring. The phantom sat Rhoda and it became heavier and heavier. Rhoda finally grabbed the phantom's left hand and pulled hard. The phantom fell off and Rhoda sat up.

The next day about midday, the woman came to Rhoda's house. But she is totally different from Rhoda's dream woman. She was kind and pretty. Rhoda's son talked the woman, but Rhoda didn't come out of her house. Two days later, the woman came to Rhoda's house again with new shirts for Rhoda's son and twelve days later came again. But there was no Rhoda's son, so Rhoda talked the woman first time. The woman's name was Gertrude. Gertrude show Rhoda her strange left hand and arm and told about that.

They met on the road again and talked about Gertrude's left arm. The doctor couldn't help Gertrude. So they decided to go to see Wise man. Gertrude showed her left arm to Wise man. Then the Wise man took eggs and did something to it. And put a glass of water and broke the eggs to open. The white of egg went down and changing to milky white color and moving round and round. He gave it to Gertrude. According to the Wise man, Gertrude can see the enemy's face of her. After saw it, Gertrude didn't talk much. The people began to put the word "witch" in front of the name "Rhoda Brook". So Rhoda decided to go away from the hill with her son.

Six month passed, Gertrude's marriage life wasn't happy because of her left arm. She decided to go to the Wise man again. The wise man told the cure. But it was the only thing. It was put the withered arm on the neck of a hanged man. And it must do before he's cold-just after they take his body down. She somehow could come in the jail and touch the neck. But the scream happened. It was not only Gertrude one's but also Rhoda's one. And there was Farmer Lodge behind Rhoda. Gertrude understood. The neck she touched is Rhoda's son. Rhoda got really angry and pulled Gertrude away from the table. Gertrude fell down and she never opened her eyes again. She died three days after.

BR2-9 The Coldest Place On Earth

I read The Coldest Place on Earth. To be honest, it was not interesting story. This story was real story. Both British ship and Norway ship raced to be the first men at the South Pole. They suffered cold, wind and food. They used many dogs to run sledge. Some people and dogs died because of bad weather. The temperature sometime goes down to -60° Centigrade. The crew was angry against captain. But both British and Norway ship got the South Pole. Norway won this race, because they always paid attention to where British ship is. British were lazy, although they had good motor sledges. British captain and crews disappointed the result and died at the Cape Evans.(118 words/6360 words)

BR2-8 The Witches Of Pendle

I read The Witches of Pendle. This story is about 1600s in England. Jennet Device was poor. In 1634 spring, Jennet was in prison with twenty women suspected as a witch. She had no hope for her future. One day Mr. Webster came to see Jennet.

After Jennet met Mr. Webster, she remembered her childhood. She lived with her mother, sister, brother, grandmother and dog. Jennet's father was dead. It caused the family to be poorer. When Jennet was 9 years old, her life began to change. Her mother and grandmother were ill. Her sister, Alizon went out to get some bread. Jennet followed her with dog. They met fat and rich man. His name was John Law. Alizon asked him to give her money to buy some foods. But John didn't answer. So Alizon asked again. John finally answered but it made Alizon angry. She ordered her dog to get John. John fell down and he couldn't move on himself. Jennet called the villagers. They helped John and said Alizon a witch.

Roger Nowell who was rich and important man in Lancashire came to see Alizon. Jennet's family went Malkin Tower and asked some questions. In the question, Alizon admitted she cursed John. Mr. Nowell wanted to meet Jennet's grandmother. Mr. Nowell and his men came to see Old Dendike. She admitted she is a witch and she can kill the people. Alizon and Old Dendike were caught in Lancaster Castle.

April 10th in Jennet's house, there are many people, Jennet's family and some friends and poor people. They drunk and ate and talked. They also planned to help Alison and Old Dendike and curse the guards.

Jennet was afraid of that. She decided to go Mr. Nowell's house and talk the truth. Her brother, James followed her. Mr. Nowell's welcomed them and gave bread and milk. Jennet told Mr. Nowell to witch. But James admitted he is a witch in front of Mr. Nowell.

April 27th the guards took Jennet's mother and James to Lancaster Castle. Jennet lived with Mr. Nowell. Her life was getting better. But one day Jennet met her family, they were thin and dirty. Old Dendike was already dead.

Unfortunately Jennet was suspended as a witch, because of her family name. She was put in prison. She waited the day she dies. (388 words/ 6242 words)

BR2-7 The President's Murderer

I read The President's Murderer. I think this story is a kind of irony or something.

Story: Alex Dinnon was running in the night. He was running away from the police. Felix(inspector) was chasing him. But Alex somehow could run away from them.

The next morning, Alex was from south of the prison. There were no people. So he decided to sleep a little. But when he opened his eyes, there was an old woman. She said "What are you doing in my field, young man?" Alex said "I'm sorry". Surprisingly she invited him to her house. The old woman's name was Marta. Marta serves some foods. Suddenly she said "How did you escape from prison?". Alex's face went white. But Marta laughed. She wasn't afraid of president's murder. She hated the police. She treated Alex one night.

The next morning, Felix and his subordinate Adam came Marta's house. They asked about Alex. But Marta didn't say about Alex. Felix and Adam didn't get anything. Chief of Police got angry, because the president really wants to put Alex in prison again.

After Alex left Marta's house, he moved quickly. He wondered where to go now. But he were hungry and he had some money from Marta. So he decided to go to shop to get food. There were many people. And he waited behind them. People looked at him, and a man went out quickly. Alex wanted to run but he waited because of starving. The boy came up to Alex and said "There are two police men in the street and they are coming here". But Alex couldn't escape at that time. But the shopkeeper called him and told another door. When Alex get out form the shop, the shopkeeper said "I never help the police-they're all bad".

Alex left for his wife's house. He met his wife. When they were talking, his Olivia(Alex's wife) noticed Alex's hands. Alex's hand was cut　and burned, because he didn't say anything about the president's murderer. In fact Alex was not the president's murderer. The police knew the true president's murderer. They were afraid Alex tells the president's murderer.

The police found the Alex's house. They brought many army’s and went to the Alex's house. Alex decided to leave the house. Of cause he knew there are many police and armys around the house. Alex went out the house. He was shot by army.

Felix was wondering. Felix found out what a cruel the police are. He argued with chief. But the chief didn't listen his idea. Felix disappointed his work and left.(431 words/5689 words)

BR2-6 Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp

I read Aladdin's story. It's a little bit different from Disney's one, I think.

In Arabia, there is a poor young man living with his mother. He lost his father five years ago and he never works. He is very lazy man.

One day he met Abanazar. He was rich and he said Aladdin to he is Aladdin's uncle. He gave money and good clothe.

The other day Abanazar took Aladdin to out of the city and he used magic and made fire. Suddenly the ground under the fire began to open. Abanazar order Aladdin to take an old lamp, because this lamp is special. The lamp has jinnee (He obeys everything, if you have lamp). Aladdin tried to get lamp, but he first took some fruits, so he couldn't get lamp. Abanazar got angly and closed the door.

Aladdin couldn't get out of the underground. But he remembered the ring that he got from Abanazar and rubbed it. Suddenly jinnee came out. Aladdin wished to get out from here. And he could go home with lamp.

When Aladdin came home, he slept many hours and woke up. He felt hungry. But there were no food. He thought to sell lamp and gave it to his mother. His mother rubbed it. And jinnee came out. They ordered to bring some foods. Jinnee brought many foods with gold plate. They ate and ate and sold plate. They gradually became rich.

One day Aladdin saw a beautiful woman. She is daughter of the sultan. Aladdin immediately fell in love with her. He wanted her, so he gave some jewels for princess Badr-al Budur through his mother. But to marry with princess was difficult. The sultan required more beauty jewels with gold plate, forty slave girls and forty slaves. But Aladdin did because of lamp. And he married with princess.

Abanazar got to know about Aladdin and got angry again. He went to Arabia again to get lamp. When Aladdin went hunting, Abanazar came to Aladdin's palace and asked to exchange new lamp to old. Princess exchanged Aladdn's old lamp to new. Abanazar moved away quikly and called jinnee. He ordered to move Aladdin's palace, garden and princess to Morocco.

After hunting, Aladdin was very surprised. There was no his palace, garden and princess. Moreover the sultan said to Aladdin “If you can't find princess in 30 days, you are killed". Aladdin cried, but he thought his ring and rubbed. Jinnee came out and took Aladdin to Morocco.

Aladdin met princess and told "Please you must give him a drink with sleeping powder". After Abanazar came back, princess gave him drink. After five seconds, he fell asleep. Aladdin called jinnee and killed Abanazar.

Aladdin and princess came back Arabia and lived happily in their palace.(462 words/4294 words)

I read The Omega Files. This book has three short stories. All these stories about EDI(European Department of Intelligence)'s member Hawker and Jude. They experienced many amazing things.

London, England

Hawker and Jude went clubbing to find Johnny who knows about a drug company's mystery. They could meet him and Johnny told the Drug company tests new drug to human. But Johnny is dead...

Loch Ness, Scotland

Hawker and Jude went to Loch Ness to find monster, but it's not Nessie. Actually this monster killed animals. But Nessie doesn't the village people say. Hawker and Jude spent there some days and finally met monster. In fact this monster was made by scientists who are studying near Loch Ness. And monster ran away and lived Loch Ness.

Galapagos, Ecuador

Hawker and Jude went to Garapagos island Because there's something strange going on. At there many people are leaving Isabela. Because they are afraid of spaceship. Dr Jim Miller is studying about this at top of mountain. But this island has many volcanos. Hawker and Jude could meet Jim. They warn to Jim. Because volcano is very active. But Jim didn't leave this place. After Hawker and Jude left, volcano erupted and Jim became missing. He went to another place using spaceship or dead? Who knows?

Although this book is level 1 (Easiest level), I couldn't understand these three stories. My English ability really sucks!!!(233 words/3615 words)

BR2-4 The Adventure Of Tom Sawyer

I read Tom Sawyer's story. I know it's really famous story. But I haven't read before.


Tom is very naughty boy and kind of clever. One day Tom and his friend, Huck went to brave to see ghost. But there weren't ghost, but instead they saw the accident. They saw fight. And one guy was killed. But killer wasn't arrested. The other guy was taken to jail.

One day Tom, Joe and Huck went to Jackson Island and spent one night. But villagers thought they were dead. And funeral for them was held on. At the funeral, Tom, Joe and Huck came back village and everybody was surprised.

The other day, Tom and Huck were finding treasure. Tom found an old house. They came in and heard men's voices. It was Injun Joe. He is killer.

At the time Tom's friend Becky's birthday party, many children went to picnic. After that Tom and Becky went to cave. But they lost and Tom touched someone's hand in the cave. It was Injun Joe's hand.

After Tom and Becky got out the cave, Injun Joe's dead body was found. Tom and Huck went to the cave again and found a treasure of Injun Joe. And they became richest in the village.(209 words/3228 words)

BR2-3 The Monkey's Paw

I read The Monkey's Paw. It was strange mystery story? I don't know. Mr. White, Mrs. White and their son Herbert were living together. Mr. and Mrs. White were old. Herbert was born, when Mrs. White was nearly 40 years old. This family was poor. So they really wanted money to live.

One night Mr. White's old friend Tom Morris came to the house. They drank and talked about Tom's interesting story. Actually Tom was in India as a soldier. He met many strange things at there. Tom talked about the monkey's paw. The monkey's paw can make three wishes. But also when it is used, something bad occur.

Tom left the house. Mr. White got the monkey's paw. He made a wish for thirty thousand pounds. But nothing occurred at that time. All they thought the monkey's paw was not true. But next day Herbert went to his work. In the afternoon, one well dressed man came to Mr. White's house and said. Your son is dead because of machine. And he gave information. The company will give thirty thousand pound.

Mr. and Mrs. White cried a lot that night and made another wish. They wished Herbert's come back. After that they heard some noise. They went downstairs and opened the door. But nobody was there.(217 words/2508 words)

BR2-2 The Elephant Man

This is real story. After I read this book. I searched it on wikipedia.

This story is about Joseph Merrick. But he was called "Elephant Man" because of his ugly face. He was in a shop as a creature. The people payed the money for shopkeeper to see "Elephant Man".

One day Dr Frederick Treves found this shop and saw "Elephant Man". Next day he took Merrick to his hospital. He looked at his head, legs and body very carefully. Dr Frederick gave Merrick to card. After that Merrick went to shop. Next day Merrick and shopkeeper were gone.

Two years passed. Suddenly Merrick backed to London. Dr Frederick collected the money for Merrick's home using The Times. Many The Times reader donated money for Merrick.

Gradually Merrick became famous. And many visitors came to Merrick's house. Moreover the queen of England came. Everybody smiled and enjoyed the time with Merrick. Merrick was happy.

But one day Merrick tried to sleep like a normal man, but because of his heavy head, he broke his neck and died.(177 words/ 1467 words)

BR2-1 The Lottery Winner

This story is about winner of lottery and snatcher. The old woman hit by the young man when she went home. The young man snatched old woman's bag. In the bag, there was a lottery ticket.
